I think it looks horrible but that is my opinion.... it's your car and you'll have to look at it all the time so do as you please

It may work horrible at night, but probably worse in daytime. That is why marketing materials only have night pictures where you only see the light :)

If you have to question whether people will laugh about it, then chances are you probably aren't too keen on it yourself.

Just because you can do it, doesn't mean you should do it.

I prefer subtle lights that illuminate controls.  When I'm driving at night I don't want blinded by lights staring me in the face.  Wouldn't be me.

Hell no! Why would you want a car that looks like a horrid Xmas decoration?! Do not do it!

Maybe in new Mercedes E or S looks nice, but in 20 years old Golf, no. But that's just my opinion

Aye it looks nice, but not to be in.  Her Mini was like that and it gave me headaches just driving it.  Too bright.

It's always going to look stuck on and like an afterthought. I'd avoid cheap styling as it never looks good.

On a second thought, it may be better outside the vehicle (as long ias it is not illegal :D).

I bet they won't allow red color tapes in front of a vehicle. So there are probably some limitations.

If you want some ideas for internal lighting and styling, then see the pics attached below. I'd like to think I kept things subtle and in keeping with the car. I did all of these about 9 years ago and think they still make the interior look reasonably modern.

The only illumination that I added to my cars interior was...

1. An illuminated black leather gear knob with leather gater... The shift pattern and numbers and R glow red on a black gloss background and dim with the car dash. It's subtle and nicer looking than the OEM knob and gater. It just had to wired into the nearest dash lights.

2. Changed the interior door and vanity lamps to LEDs all around.

3. Changing the roof dome light for OEM one out of I think it was a high end AUDI or Passat or something of the same era. The main difference is it has 2 red LEDs hidden in it that illuminate the console below. These also dim with the dash. It fits the existing aperture and connects to the standard loom with no mods.

I also did other styling. Changed the clock dials. Added brushed steel bezzels around the consoles, vents etc. Changed the vents to fully closing type. Added OEM Audi TT pedal covers.

My best advise is that if it looks like it's cheap, stuck on or not meant to be there... It probably shouldn't be. That said, I guess my mods may not be too the taste of all...69337cb14fd3f7d0a30263d2afe6da24.jpgdc0a7c0717f4f7384a188e301d78f28a.jpg5a5e380cf78ea15b61c5a69d6db335ce.jpg47d0067123d97915203a1fad5381c7c1.jpg

The LEDs in the courtesy and above door lights are blue to match the dash console. All bar the reading lights that is.

Sealey cupboards... highly recommended. They're great organisation for a guy that can turn a 2 hour job into an 8 hour job! That was one of my jobs Christmas/New Year break 2019385e751ed36bfc28662e94507221483d.jpg

Ta. I have to give credit to the plasterer also. They say it takes a plasterer 20 walls to become good... I don't have 20 walls to practice on!
