I had an issue on the Wife's 55 plate Mk5 Golf a while back where the fuel filler flap simply would not open. After much faffing around & reading thru about 6 other VW forums & some sore knuckles / scratched wrists by mucking about in the boot behind the rigid carpet that line it, I managed to get it open. Unfortunately, I managed to knacker the mechanism in the process.

Being a lazy sod, this was fine for about 2 years (as it would close over but sit a little proud, therefore indicating that it was 'open'), until about 6 months ago, when we came out from the house one morning to find some toe rag had literally 'kicked' the thing off, by snapping it forward, so it split along the hinge end.

Slightly annoyed by this, we've had no other issues up until the last 2 weeks where we've came out on two occasions to find the fuel filler cap dangling, as someone has been helpfully unscrewing the fuel cap !

So... I'm looking for any helpful pointers / tips / pictures / explanation on how to get the whole solenoid / fuel filler neck assembly out, with the intent of acquiring a 2nd hand one to replace it.

Thanks in Advance

Could get a replacement cap that opens with a key if you don't want to replace the flap itself.

I'm keen to get the cover / solenoid so that it is OEM quality.

I've seen a few of the 'covers' (read as the 'door' & rubber surround) on fleabay, but I think it may be a trip to the dealership for the solenoid/actuator.

FUEL FLAP ACTUATOR MOTOR 1K6810773

FUEL FLAP FILLER COVER 1K6809857

Do these sound correct ?

The car in question is a standard 2005, 4 door hatchback, not the estate, or the Golf-Plus..

ALSO - found this link for removing the solenoid / actuator...

...& finally.

Off another forum where I know the individual who quoted the data below is an Independent VW specialist & has access to all the manuals:

Fuel filler unit 1K6 809 857 C GRU

Actuator 1K6 810 773

Spring 1J0 809 931 (the last unit I bought did not come with a new one)

Guide 1K6 810 899 A (you may need this)
