Not too far, just would have to wait till the weekend for my dad to take me and arrange the viewing with the guy.

What's each sticker? I know one in the boot is what the car has been specced with, which there should be a link in one of my threads to check things.
Is there a website to check the engine code? Or is it a case of the first three letters tells the engine type thing?

None you would need to correct the details with the DVLA about your chassis number and as for insurance you can simply say your car is a 1.8T and provide the reg number of one with the same year and body type and provide your registration to get the final stuff done.

 

What about taxing it since it currently comes with none?

Anything else I can try and ask the seller for? I am thinking about taking the gamble and going to view.

Well that was part of me knocking off £500 when I was first speaking to the seller about it.
For the headlight washer repaint and the bumper mark been quoted as £160, but that's not shopping around and only providing photos. Possibly could get it cheaper. 

Can tax be bought with day insurance?
I think the new owners slip part of the v5 can be used in the post office too?

Umm barely ever lol. Could do with a 3dr but i think the 5dr has more character? or is this just me? + you dont have to worry about getting out to let people out either []

I personally think the 5door has a bit more of a classic ageless shape to it. But I ain't fussed in the terms of the Golf.

Ask for Engine shots if it has the pipe across the front then it's a T.

Sort of agree. Also it's nice in a way as more 3dr are modified than 5dr..so it's a bit more exclusive. [y]

Need to speak to my dad tomorrow about being times for viewing but thunk I'll take the gamble and go ahead.

Anything I can read up in the mean time? Mechanically wise we both ain't that good, spotting the turbo will be my limit, but will take it to my own garage for an inspection before any money is spent on it.

I've got the specification code reader bookmarked in my phone ready to go.

iff needs be check the service book as there will be a sticker in the front of the book that states the chassis number along with the engine code, the same sticker will be found in the left hand side of the spare wheel housing under the boot carpet.

This should match the service book and the chassis number under the bonnet

also check the stamped chassis number on the bulk head/windscreen scuttle under a little plastic window.

If all that is the same it is up to you then [B]

 The engine code will be stamped on the top of the block aswell.

 It's worth checking the Boot sticker (in the spare wheel well) if it's still there. There should also be a sticker in the hand book they list all the option  codes. A 1.8T is normally listed as a turbo exclusive 110KW (150bhp)

Walk away, too much hassle with this motor, the seller should know exactly what he's selling, it's a non turbo, it's not the engine you want, keep looking.. They'll be plenty more, get on eBay, Auto trader & Pistonheads, you'll find something.

It's a turbo....(more likely than not if you look at DentReforms posts) .but yes it's true there will be lots of others out there so not a biggie either way [:DD]

Just need to decide on what to do about insurance.

There days insurance meaning I pay £30one off fee, and can hopefully whack this into my phone while at the garage to pay. Or there's amiral who I would eventually go with. And if I don't like the car make sure I cancel within the 14days, but that one seems rather dodgey approach.

You can take out insurance there and then with Admiral, it would be easiest, double check to make sure they will cover you immediately but they did with me [y]

i think with admiral it takes like half hour for their system to update, when i started mine they told me id be insured at 1:39 or whatever, so dont just assume its instant sods law you;d get pulled lol

Well the cosmetic stuff needing done, rear bumper will need full respray and the headlight washer. Drove nice and smooth and with ease. Used to vans for 4years which although diesels had to be worked.

Couldn't find the sticker/markers in the bonet area but it had the 1.8T on the engine cover and the metal pipe across the front. Boot sticker bad the aum code.

Seats tasty warm! Maybe should have paid more attention to the climate though.

Full folder full of receipts etc

Picking it up tomorrow.
