Wee bit more I was wanting to pay, but it all felt good and solid. Time will tell when I hopefully get it to my own mechanic for an inspection.

83600 listed the car prices as:

Forecourt £3,890
Private: £2790

So I'm guessing a garage/mechanic selling cars on the side is somewhere between.
He did say he originially had it at £2995, I first saw it at £2495, so quite a bit off either way.

Just glad of the freedom I will now hopefully be able to get! I suffer from chronic back and leg pains which can leave my basically trapped in my house due to unable to withstand the public transport. And being unemployed I am basically stuck in the house all day so this will hopefully allow some freedom to just get out for a bit and to stop planning my life around when my parents can drive me! 23 and it feels like I am much younger at times!

My friend has this issue with his car, they put another z near the spacer code z and should have been a 2 for 2002 chassis.

Sort of what I was going to say. The 10th digit should def be a 2, no matter what engine it was as it's the build year in any car, not just VW's. Z was never used, like registrations, it went from Y (2000) to 1 (2001) etc.

It's always worth remembering when trying to ascertain an engine code that as well as boot and handbook stickers, and the stamp on the engine, the V5 logbook has it.

It's the first three digits of the engine number.
