That's a seriously stripped out golf to start with! Best of luck with the build - looks as though you have some decent parts for good power.

LMFAO, i can definately assure you that Rich.
Really tempted to build it up with only the bare essentials needed.
After all, interior can be sorted out after. Ill paint it inside and out then I can easily decide what to do in future []

Not many updates as been working on getting the 1.6 runabout in a legal condition for test.
However, it does have a GTi front panel with full size rad and new radiator and I still have my old 1.4 radiator and front panel so they will be getting swapped over between runabout and project so no need to purchase additional parts there []

Highly tempted to sell k03s and put money towards upgrading the valvetrain on the head.
I know I will get decent money back off the setup, k03s, forge actuator, forge TIP, 2.75" MAF, manifold, downpipe/decat, injectors
Going bigger would mean custom IC piping route so would sell THS intercooler aswell :|
Hmmmmmm

Decide im going to order a set of forged pistons aswell when ive saved up a bit. 8.5Compression ratio and 82mm bore or maybe 82.5mm depending if my machinist can do it. 83mm is pushing the limited of headgasket I think.
Also, 2nd coat of gloss black on the box. pic is crap but meh, its a gearbox.

Nice work, Chris.
Did you ever run an additional/external oil cooler with this engine? If so, which one did you run and how did you mount it?

No oil cooler, but probably run one with big power.
Tonights 4 hours work doesnt really show much on the surface but lots done.
Oxy bottles on all the seam sealer to remove it.
Started to weld up all little holes in the chassis
Mate says are you not going to seam weld it all, so I think for a minute then get cracking doing that.
Never really welded before so not exactly the best welds, but nothing a bit tidying up with grinder and patches touched in wont solve.

*Drivers side with slightly dressed welds*
PS - dont laugh at my welding, we all gotta start somewhere []

People who think welding is easy and would make fun of your welds can't weld. Looks like you're off to a good start though, running beads instead of just tacking. http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/mig.htm Is worth a read, great tutorials there.

Weldings not that bad atall mate.... Some guy i know thinks he can weld and it looks like pigeon crap.. Trust me your welding is good for a novice (no pun intended)..
I cant weld but would love to learn and like you say, "we have all got to start somewere"...

Hopefully get some more done next week, need some new TIPs for the welder []
Its a right pain to weld to with it being zinc coated, so gotta grind it all off to bare metal to get a chance of a decent weld.

Something to bare in mind re. roll cages and harnesses Chris - New MOT laws due to come into effect soon require original seat belts and mounts to be in place. As well as airbags if fitted at point of manufacture.
That's one of the reasons why we've taken the Bora off the road.
Good build up so far. If you're gonna seam weld it, do it properly and get the underseal off inside those arches and areas where your cage foot plates are going to be fitted. It'll be worth it. MK4 chassis has way too much flex in it.
