Do admit, I like that.

See a lot of potential on the dub scene with that.

All the lines

seem

to end

a bit sharply to me.

;-)

Doesn't seem to flow as well as the 1,2,3,4,5 and even mk6. Maybe will be a grower.

Front end is too much like a polo, wheres the originality in design gone? The every golf up to the mk5 has been better by design but the 6 & 7 are gross

It's just a mass produced tin can now with no soul and is becoming as bland as all the other mass produced mid sized euro cars. It's lots it's unique "Golfness" that made it what it was in my opinion. Oh and of course the R versions or what ever they'll be called will be grossly overpriced and will cost more than a small house[:(].

And the Mk4 wasn't bland or mass produced? [:S]

They are only just released and the one pictured does seem the equivalent to an "S" - Let's hope as with the rest of the Golf Mk# models the higher models will look a bit more... unique I guess. I would reckon a £35k for the R equivalent, but looking forward to the 230bhp TDI [:DD]

Bit more info here.

And the Mk4 wasn't bland or mass produced? Tongue Tied

My personal opinion even though I'm obviously biased is that the mk 4 isn't bland and has more presence than any other medium sized car from the same era,and again in my opinion the best looking standard Golf they ever made was the mk 4 R32.And yes as they made 5 million of them it was definitely mass produced, but it still sounded (and Looked) just like a Golf.

I agree Chris it did have more presence than a lot of other competitive cars at the time.. (the megane of the time, really??).

But I guess it's just the styling and design principles have changed over the years (not saying this is in a good or a bad direction, mind)

The problem is play it safe = sales or go " off the wall" = gamble / no sales ? Lets face it, bottom of the range cars never entice a sale - you need to see the mid/top range cars before deciding. And manufacturers know this

Given previous history on mark 5's and mark 6's how long do we give it till the SE becomes a 'Match' with some extras thrown in?

Not for a while, won't be until mid-way through the model cycle at earliest so at least 3 years I reckon. Match came quickly for the MK6 as it wasn't kept on sale very long. At least the SE on this retains most of the equipment introduced in the previous Match like touchscreen DAB radio and leather mfsw.

Its looks like the love child of a new polo and an MK6, dont like it at all, in all honesty I wasn't big on the MK6 either.

To be honest, I wouldn't of expected anything better in the mainstream market; remember what they did with the new Range Rover? Classic will always be best, I even said this to a parts dealer at VW. "Your traditional models will always be the best." surprisingly he agree'd. Its like music, everyone's just competing with each other and forgetting about what there brand is really about. I don't value this new MK7 and to be fair, the MK6 looked nice but you know, there are reasons why you still see 1970's cars on the roads these days. "There just not made like they used to be"

I have to admit, I dont like the little windows by the wing mirrors. I dont like the heater controls look either. I have to admit the GTD/GTI's gonna have to do something special to make me buy one.

Does anyone have pictures of the GT dashboard with the std 5.8" Discover Navigation System (DNS) ?

All the pics in the offical VW brochure show the larger and more expensive 8" PRO version.....

Not sure about the shiny piano black surrounds either...

[|-)]...I almost fell asleep looking at that car.  It might as well be a mk6.5.  At least with all the previous generations of golf, you could tell the difference.  Not any more, its just a bland eurobox.  Maybe if they bring a GTi model out it will look better, but it will be way overpriced anyway.
