Thanks for sharing.

Do admit I want one but would wait for the more powerful diesel engine or GTI tbh.

Still seems to be the 2.0 TDI 150 unfortunately as per the press reviews of European GT spec models. I'm eagerly awaiting to hear the verdict on a lesser powered model as they have a different suspension setup.

Now the initial press interest has probably passed i doubt we'll see press reviews of the sub 120 bhp engined cars ( with the lighter more basic rear suspension )  I suspect there will soon be actual examples of say the popular 1.6tdi model or the 1.2 petrol TSI for us to try out.

What's the difference of the rear suspension? Between models that is... I hope nothing is a step backwards from the Mk5/Mk6..

they sure were and that's why i have also done some on early 57 and 58 plates too [:(]

Don't get me wrong i am sure the upper range of engines such as the GTI and possible R versions will be a bit of a weapon but seeing and working on 95% diesel engines right across the range of VAG range every day i personally would not own one for love or money!

Well why don't you own one before judging? I guess you are a mechanic of some sort so of course people bring their broken cars to you.. normally Peugeots. [:P]

There is a well reported issue with the 2.0 TDI heads cracking but I don't think there have been any C-revision heads crack yet which would be sort of after 2007.. So it would be interesting to know if those 57 and 58 model years were revision C heads as apparently there has not been any cracked head problems.. Although there has been a couple of head gaskets!

I won't be getting a 2.0 TDI in my next Golf but would have the engine in something like a new A4.. [y]

The lesser powered models have torsion beam read suspension, like you'd get on a MK4 Golf. On paper at least it's a massive step back as all MK5s and MK6s had the more sophisticated multilink setup standard

Thanks for explaining..  Seems silly of VW imho.. a step backward however also surely must increase production costs having two different sets of suspension components to produce??

Ah well.. if I ever get a Mk7 it'll have over 120bhp even if it's to make sure you get the better suspension [:S]

Has anyone got a link to a review of the new Golf with the 1.4 TSI 122 engine. All I can find is reviews of the 1.4 TSI ACT and the 2.0 TDI.

This source - http://www.carbuzz.c...Volkswagen/Golf says that there hasn't been anyone for journalsts to test, is that true?

Very frustrating as I want to order one, but can't find any opinions on the engine and no dealers have the smaller engines to test. It's a heavy car so I want to make sure it isn't too slow.
