For a very brief moment on the VW MK7 technology advertising section, I saw the greyed out option for the Heated Front Windscreen.

I've heard rumours that it'll be offered as an option later this year. It was one of the few features that I'd enjoyed on my old Mondeo.

When I'd checked the site today, it's mysteriously been deleted.

Anyone have any further details?

how does it work?

I assume you mean the actual glass is heated? - like the rear, but without the lines

it is small zig zag wires running inside the laminate of glass. I find that they give me a head ache but it does work really well

Yep, a heated windscreen using an electically conductive layer but somewhat superior to the one used on Ford's. It's still very vague but I gather that VW's use a conductive sheet on the windscreen rather than wires.

The only criticism that I'd lay on the Ford system was that you could marginally see the "clear" heating element wires on the windscreen but they worked a treat in the winter for ice and superb for demisting during downpours.

Might sort out the condensation issue that we have on the mk6...

The oldest and nicest car that i have seen the heated windscreen was in a Ferrari F40, still gave me a head ache but was enjoying the speed too much to think about it

Read somewhere 'Heated Windscreen' , as an option on the Mk 7, is going to be available from build week 22 ( MY 2014)

Build week 22 would be mid-May (I think).

The salesman I spoke to already had the option on the new Passat. He had nothing but praise for the heated windscreen during this current winter. I'd say it's a lock that it'll be an option later this year on the Golf.

Well it's finally appeared on the VW UK configurator @ £285 combined with mandatory option "Advanced Telephone Connection" @ £310, makes it a ridiculous £595 option.

Come on, seriously VAG?? Nearly 600 sheets for a heated windscreen. I'm all for nice options but that's just effing steep! Not worth altering my existing Mk7 order.

Even my dad's old XR3i se500 has a heated windscreen, still working perfectly. But it  does idle like a pig lol

i work at the nissan plant in sunderland.

The new qashqi is going to have a heated front screen.

The reason we were told it has never been an option before was that Ford owned the patent but that has now lapsed so other manufactures can now use the technology?
