Hi All,

Just after some advice please, just took my nurburg project for her MOT... she passed with flying colors.. not bad for 192000 miles.

However on the way home i give her a bit of right foot and the oil pressure warning came up..

its a AGU engine and i recently purchased the car with a smashed sump... now the engine doesnt sound like its starving of oil and sounds pretty sweet.

Please can anyone tell me the location of the oil pressure switch/sensor as i may try changing that first ?

also any other ideas welcome

Just to close this down, issue fixed

changed the oil again even though its done about 10 miles with a new filter,

also change the oil pressure sensor and all is well.

Also the car passed its MOT yesterday 18 years old and shes never failed an MOT :)

Have you checked oil pressure? These engines are bad for oil pickups.
When I changed the sump less than a month and a half ago I checked the oil pick up and it looked spotless... so unless its got contaminated in less than 10 miles I would hope that would be clear.

Heya All,

After changing the oil/filter and oil pressure switch the old girl has been running well.

Ive done a few late night running tests to see if there are any issues when she is running HARD..

She runs great, no issues at all.

However after about 30 mins of running hard I drop my mate off and PING oil warning light ... 2 mins later off again..

Now again last night took another mate for a blast.. got home. had to use my car to push his car ( don't ask) PING oil warning light..

Now when I checked oil pic up it was mint.. also I changed the oil pressure sensor/switch off the other 1.8t I got ... ive done 2 oil changes...

the last thing im going to try is another NEW oil pressure switch/sensor

any other ideas folks ?

Ive just ordered an oil pressure gauge so will fit that when it arrives, ive read somewhere that the install is simple just removing an allen bolt near the filter is that correct ?

also any ideas on the pressure im supposed to be getting ?

Heya guys

Ran an oil pressure sensor this weekend..

At cold i was getting 60 PSI on idle

However once she was warmer she was running 40 PSI

When she got warm she was running 21 PSI on idle

However under load she is running spot on where she should be...

New oil pump?

Okay guys so ive been out to check it again and on cold idle all the pressures are spot on... its once the engine is warm the pressure drops.. it just dropped to 21PSI on idle once it had warmed again....

thoughts please guys.. oil pump ?

Well the oil pressure would drop as it gets warm, cold oil is thicker.

My car keeps throwing an oil pressure warning...

Ive run it a few times now and yesterday the lowest it went was 14 PSI on idle..

Ive just read the other thread where Adam's PSI seems spot on with mine..

The only issue I noticed that also caused concern was a tight corner I turned was 10mph so was real tight and almost a full lock it dropped to 6PSI for a split second..

Now I put this down to my slight hunt on idle may this dropped the RPM's to stalling territory any maybe caused the warning light ( sorry if you was here now it would be talking out loud to myself) but that's my theory ?

Thing is I checked the pick up less than 100 miles ago and it was spot on... also I changed the oil 2 weeks ago with a new filter and oil pressure sensor... the oil is golden and like new

The only last thing I can assume (again me thinking out loud) is the oil pick up tube us bent upwards slightly.. i don't expect you guys to remember but i purchased the car with a smashed in sump and im now wondering if the pick up tube was hit up slightly during the process ?

i appreciate your help here guys

i didn't measure it buddy if im honest, I get a free supply of engine oil so I just pour out what I need from 20l containers.

I'll drop the oil tonight/tomorrow and measure what comes out and what I replace it with

you are correct the dipstick tube is knackered .... but I was very careful (so i thought) with checking the levels using my other 1.8t as reference

I have new tube on order also should be here when I get home if the royal snail is working well

Evening All,

Today the post man was very kind and brought me a new dipstick so after refitting the gearbox to my other golf i set about fitting of the new dipstick, once fitted i checked the levels and i was right on the max mark. So as someone mentioned earlier i threw some more oil at it. now reads about 2 mm above full.

Took her out for another run.

I was out 30 mins in total.

Cold Idle was 68 PSI

Warm ish Idle 18 PSI

Warm Idle 14 PSI

When i was parking the car BEEP... low oil pressure .. 11 PSI idle now..

Car stays at 11 PSI and keeps saying low oil pressure warning.
